QuizList Match will do in a half hour what it used to take a team of volunteers
weeks to do – match up your books and quizzes so you know what needs to be
ordered.
AR BookGuide promised
to do that, but failed. The matching was inaccurate and the interface was
cumbersome. The data was always months out of date and it was expensive. The
reports consisted of thousands of titles on reams of paper that then had to be
gone through by hand to select the books/quizzes you actually wanted to buy.
Most librarians we’ve talked to have gone back to doing the job manually rather
than use it again.
Accurate
We use sophisticated matching technology that utilizes all the
data in your MARC records – even multiple ISBNs – to determine matches.
BookGuide uses only the LCCN and an exact title/author match, both of which can
be problematic. Most schools’ MARC records have poorly populated LCCNs, and
usually have much better ISBN presence, which BookGuide does not use at all.
Added to the problem is that there is typically more than one book a quiz will
apply to, each having different LCCNs. AR includes only one LCCN in their quiz
data so if you have one of the alternate editions, it will not match.

Makes ordering easy
Instead of dumping hundreds or thousands of titles out to a
printer, QuizList Match generates online reports of books and quizzes that you
may wish to purchase to synchronize your collections. You can then look at
those reports in many different ways to focus on what is important to you.
Filter the results by Interest Level, Book Level, Language and/or
Classification. Your goal may be to increase your collection of nonfiction
quizzes. Why should you have to wade through all those that don’t fit that
criteria? You then select titles you wish to order. The resulting order list
can be faxed to Renaissance or your favorite book seller for fulfillment.
Web-based
There are no CDs to wait for and we are always up-to-date. You
can upload your quiz list and MARC records at school and finish up the work
anywhere you have an internet connection.
Inexpensive
You are not required to purchase a subscription. QuizList
Match is just $35 each time you need to use it. Compare that to
BookGuide’s rather steep yearly subscription price.
Always up-to-date
Our database is continually being updated. There is no CD sent
to you which is out-of-date even before it’s shipped.
